Welcome Back!

It's hard to believe that a new school year is upon us.  I have made some exciting changes to the library over the summer and we have TONS of new books to display!  As always, I need parents to volunteer in the library, which can not be operated without your help.

I will hold my annual coffee for parents interested in learning about volunteer opportunities in the library on Wednesday, September 8 beginning at 8:45am.  Young ones are welcome... please come, introduce yourself, have some coffee and treats and sign up to help!  Looking forward to seeing you in the library on the 8th!

Spring has sprung at the library!

Our Scholastic BookFair was  huge success, and the library earned over $2,000 in cash and new books for the library collection.  Thank you to the many parent volunteers, and to all who purchased a book at the fair.  Those new books are being cataloged and put on display in the library.  Pop in to check one out!

Dr. Seuss Day at Fitzgerald!

We had another successful Seuss celebration (say that ten times fast!) on Tuesday, March 2.  In our all school gathering in the gym, students were greeted by Fitzie the Panther and The Cat in the Hat, along with Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz and Thing 1 and Thing 2.  The Man with the Yellow Hat and Curious George were also there!  Students learned that the Cat is not very responsible.  Luckily, Responsibility is this month's CORE value.  Ms. Kelly and some 5th grade students acted some skits demonstrating responsibility.  We talked about responsibilities inside and outside of school and learned that teachers have a lot of responsibilities outside of school!  Students had to guess which teacher:  takes dance lessons twice a week, sings Karaoke, is a super Mom, has a pet tortoise named Abe or teaches an exercise class at 6am.  Ms. Darcy ended our gathering with a read aloud of A Fine Fine School by Sharon Creech.  The Cat learned a LOT about responsibility today and we hope the students did too!

After the gathering, students in grade 3-5 read to students in grades K-2 during a schoolwide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time.  Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!

Another book fair... in March!

I have just booked our spring time book fair.  It will run, in the library, from Tuesday, March 16 to Monday, March 22.  I will schedule all classes to visit the fair, plus the fair will be open on the two early release days, Wed., March 17 and Friday, March 19, from 1-3 for any parents visiting for conferences.  We will also have our spring Open House on the evening of Thurs., March 18 and the book fair will be open to all.

I am using a different book fair company this spring:  Scholastic. I think everyone will be pleased with the variety this fair will offer.  Stay tuned for schedules and volunteer requests!
