Looking forward to seeing many volunteers and shoppers in the upcoming days!  This is one of two book fairs and the only two fundraisers the library holds each year.  Please consider using the Fair for some of your holiday shopping this year.  Here is the schedule:

New Library Software!

Our software conversion is complete.  Staff, volunteers, and students will be learning how to use this new software in the upcoming weeks, and now you can search our library catalog from home!  Simply go to the Fitzgerald School website and find the "@ your library" tab on the lefthand side.  When you put your mouse over the tab, a new tab entitled "Catalog Database" pops up on the right.  Click on it and it will bring you to our library catalog.  Please see me in the library if you have any questions.

October is Mystery Month

Each month the library focuses on a specific genre of literature.  This month is Mystery Month!  Ask your child to recommend a good mystery. 

Here are some mystery vocabulary words:

Mystery:  something that is secret and unknown
Alibi:  an excuse a suspect uses to show he or she was somewhere other than at the scene of the crime when the crime was committed
Clue: a fact or object that helps to solve the mystery
Detective: character trying to solve the mystery

Evidence:  something that helps prove who committed the crime
Red herring:  a false lead that throws the detective off track
Suspect:  character believed to have possibly committed the crime
Witness:  character who saw the crime being committed

When does my child have library?

All classes have been visiting the library for orientations.  Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 23, regular library circulation times will begin.  Classes will visit once a week for book circulation on the following days:

Mondays: 
Nunes  K
Tuesdays: 
 McDermott, Melanson, Coyne  (all 1st grade)
Wednesdays: 
Creonte, Moloney, Siroky (all 5th grade)
O'Brien, Najarian and Clifford (all 3rd grade)

Welcome Back!

It's hard to believe that a new school year is upon us.  I have made some exciting changes to the library over the summer and we have TONS of new books to display!  As always, I need parents to volunteer in the library, which can not be operated without your help.

I will hold my annual coffee for parents interested in learning about volunteer opportunities in the library on Wednesday, September 8 beginning at 8:45am.  Young ones are welcome... please come, introduce yourself, have some coffee and treats and sign up to help!  Looking forward to seeing you in the library on the 8th!

Spring has sprung at the library!

Our Scholastic BookFair was  huge success, and the library earned over $2,000 in cash and new books for the library collection.  Thank you to the many parent volunteers, and to all who purchased a book at the fair.  Those new books are being cataloged and put on display in the library.  Pop in to check one out!
